David Walliams
David Walliams is probably the most successful British swimming comedian of all-time! David is also known for acting, presenting and writing but after he completed the English Channel swim for Sport Relief in 2006 he has become almost as famous for his swimming challenges.
David is passionate about swimming and keen to get more people back into the pool as possible. He will be swimming at SwimBritain London Aquatics Centre on 20th September 2014. Sign up today and join him there!
Duncan Goodhew MBE
Duncan made his Olympic debut in 1976 while still a student. Two years later in the 1978 Commonwealth Games he won Silver medals in both Individual Breaststroke events and the Medley Relay. While at the World Championships that same year he finished fourth in both individual events and won a Bronze medal in the Medley Relay. Returning as captain of Britain’s swimming team for the 1980 Moscow Olympics he won Gold in the 100m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 4x100m Medley Relay.
Now that he no longer swims competitively, Duncan has adapted the lessons he learnt in the pool to assist businesses and charities worldwide. His expertise has proved invaluable in the British Gas campaign to get Britain swimming. Join him at SwimBritain this September.
Ellie Simmonds OBE
Double Paralympic Champion and 6-time Paralympic Medallist, Ellie has been swimming since the age of five, she has since become an ambassador for Paralympic sport, helping to increase its profile through her incredible achievements of ten world titles, five European titles and eight World Records.
Ellie enjoyed SwimBritain Coventry in 2013, swimming with three young competition winners who were big Ellie fans. Ellie will be participating in the Coventry event again this year which takes place on 6th September
Hannah Miley
Hannah Miley is regarded as one of the most gifted individual medley swimmers to grace the pool in such a difficult discipline.
Hannah competed in her second Olympic Games at London 2012 where she finished 7th in the 200m IM and 5th in the 400m IM. With the Olympic fever behind her Hannah will be looking for more success in the pool at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.
Hannah is passionate about getting people swimming in Scotland and across the UK. Last year Hannah was on hand at the SwimBritain event in Edinburgh and proved a real success with everyone at the Royal Commonwealth Pool. Keri-anne Payne
Keri-anne's Silver medal win in the inaugural 10k Marathon Swim at the 2008 Beijing Olympics led to a surge in the popularity of Open Water swimming events in the UK and worldwide.
Keri-anne's stature in this exciting new sport heightened when she was crowned World Champion at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
But her talents don't just stop in open water events. In the pool at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, she also proved herself to be a brilliant all-round swimmer by winning a Bronze medal in the 400m Individual Medley.
Keri-anne has been a British Gas swimming ambassador since 2009, encouraging more people to get in to the water and swim. Last year Keri-anne raced against channel-conqueror David Walliams at SwimBritain open water event at Blenheim Palace, and will be taking part in the same swim again this year. Michael Jamieson
Michael Jamieson quickly became the new star of British Swimming after winning the silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke at the London 2012 Olympic Games, breaking the British Record three times throughout the competition.
Michael started swimming at the age of five at Tollcross Pool in Glasgow. Although he was also a talented footballer, at the age of 13, he chose the world of swimming and has since trained in Paris, Edinburgh and Bath.
As well as competing, Michael has inspired hundreds of children to get into swimming over the years. In 2013 Michael attended SwimBritain Bristol, where he proved to be a real hit on the day. Michael will be taking part in SwimBritain Bristol again this year which happens on 14th September.
Rebecca Adlington OBE
Double Olympic Champion and 4-time Olympic Medallist, Rebecca's dedication and professionalism in the pool has made her a global superstar and a role model for athletes around the world.
Becky ‘s passion for swimming hasn’t waned since her retirement in February 2013, she is working to encourage as many people as possible to get back into the pool and enjoy swimming again.
Last year Rebecca swam SwimBritain Sheffield along with three lucky competition winners. Becky is looking forward to SwimBritain 2014 where she will be taking part in the London Fields Lido event on 28th September. Why not join her there?
